Integrate Hexagon HxGN SDx with Sharecat

Hexagon HxGN SDx and HxGN EAM give engineering and operations teams a powerful backbone for managing industrial assets across their full lifecycle. What completes the picture is an automated way to collect, validate and exchange vendor data across the supply chain. That is where Sharecat connects – via open API, in the background, without disrupting the way your teams work.

Your tags are in Hexagon. Your vendor data is in spreadsheets, inboxes and PDF attachments. Somewhere between the two, projects lose time they never get back.

It is a problem every engineering and operations team inasset-intensive industries knows well. Hexagon HxGN SDx and HxGN EAM are powerful platforms – but collecting, validating and exchanging vendor documentation across the supply chain requires a dedicated layer that sits alongside them. Without it, data gaps accumulate quietly through the project and surface loudly at handover.

That layer is Sharecat. By connecting directly to Hexagon viaopen API, Sharecat and Hexagon work together to automate the flow of vendordata, technical documentation and supplier specifications – so your teams stayin the tools they know, and the data finds its own way home.

Why Hexagon and Sharecat Work Better Together

Hexagon HxGN SDx centralises engineering documents, drawings and asset lifecycle data for complex industrial facilities. HxGN EAM extends this into operations – work orders, maintenance schedules, spare parts and asset performance. For organisations running the newer HxGN SDx2, the same principle applies: a cloud-native environment built for the full asset lifecycle, from engineering design through to decommissioning.

What none of these platforms were built to do is reach into thesupply chain.

When a facility is being designed, tags are created for everyinstrument, valve, pump and equipment item. Each tag carries data requirements– technical specifications, data sheets, certifications and vendordocumentation that must be gathered from suppliers, reviewed and approvedbefore it can be stored against the correct asset record. Hexagon manages theengineering and operational backbone. Sharecat manages the supplier data layer. The API connection between them means both platforms contribute what they dobest.

How the Integration Works

Sharecat is an open industrial data platform. Hexagon connectsto Sharecat via API to exchange data in either direction, creating a seamlessflow between the two systems.

Tag lists, equipment objects and functional location data movefrom Hexagon into Sharecat, where they become the basis for structured vendordata collection. Sharecat engages the right suppliers, collects the rightdocumentation and validates it against the requirements of each tag –automatically and at scale.

Once vendor data has been collected, reviewed and approved inSharecat, it is returned via API to Hexagon – linked to the correct tags andobjects, ready for use in HxGN SDx, HxGN SDx2 or HxGN EAM. When a maintenanceengineer opens an equipment record, the supplier documentation is alreadythere, linked to the right tag, without anyone having put it there manually.

From Design Through Maintenance: The Impact Across the Full Lifecycle

This is where Hexagon and Sharecat differ from AVEVA andSharecat in an important way. Hexagon's combination of SDx and EAM means thedata connection covers not just the engineering and handover phase, but theentire operational life of the asset – from the first tag created in design tothe last work order raised before decommissioning.

For engineering teams using HxGN SDx or SDx2, tag data flows automatically to Sharecat for vendor data collection. Supplier documentation is gathered, reviewed and approved in Sharecat, then returned linked to the correct asset records. Handover from construction to operations becomes a controlled, traceable process built on complete data.

For operations and maintenance teams using HxGN EAM, equipmentrecords are enriched with the supplier data they depend on. Spare parts arelinked to the equipment they belong to. Maintenance teams have access tocomplete technical documentation in the system they already use – not chaseddown from a shared drive or reconstructed from email threads.

For IT and systems teams, Sharecat's open API means theconnection is configurable to the specific data flows of each Hexagonenvironment. As the organisation grows, adds sites or upgrades to newer Hexagonproducts, the data ecosystem scales with it.

Complete Data Is Not a Project Deliverable. It Is an OperationalRequirement.

In asset-intensive industries, incomplete asset data is not justa project problem – it is an operational liability that compounds over the lifeof the facility. Every gap in the vendor documentation at handover becomes agap in the maintenance record, a delay in the procurement decision, a risk inthe compliance audit.

Hexagon provides the structure. Sharecat provides thecompleteness. Together they give industrial organisations an asset dataenvironment that does not just reflect what was designed – but what was built, tested, delivered and ready to maintain.

For organisations running Hexagon across engineering, operationsand maintenance, that is the difference Sharecat makes.
